A Growing Family Business

Our journey began in 1938 when Ivan Fox started supplying butchers in Hamilton with essential tools like blocks, slicers, grinders, and saws. Fred Gose, an experienced refrigeration expert from Germany, joined Ivan and eventually took over the business in 1970. Under Fred's leadership, we expanded to offer a wide range of refrigeration equipment, including deli, dairy, produce, and fresh meat refrigerated cases, flower coolers, reach-in and walk-in coolers/freezers, chillers, blast freezers, customized freezers, custom storage rooms, and ice machines. Our clients include supermarkets, processing plants, warehouses, plaza strip malls, and shopping centers. Harry, Fred’s son, started working in the family business during his teenage summers and became a full-time team member in 1974 after earning his inter-provincial HVAC mechanic certification. In 1998, Harry purchased the company.

The Next Generation

Fred's influence remains a driving force in our business. As Harry puts it, “I learned a lot from him and the success he had in the business. It’s given me the same type of drive that he had. I’ve seen what he did and wanted to continue that, but also do some things a little differently.”Harry introduced heating and cooling systems into the company's offerings, enabling year-round operations and increasing business by approximately 30 percent. Fox's commercial and industrial HVAC solutions now include three-ton to 60-ton rooftop units, split systems, air conditioning, infrared heating systems, unit heaters, boilers, furnaces, air purification systems, air cleaner systems, ventilation, exhaust systems, and fans.

Continuing the Family Business:

Mike and Ashley Take the Helm in 2024

In 2024, Harry's children, Mike and Ashley, took over the company, continuing the family tradition. Mike, like his father, grew up working in the business, earning his refrigeration and air conditioning certificates along with gas tickets before joining full-time. Ashley started helping in the office right after high school and eventually took on a leadership role in office management. Together, Mike and Ashley bring a fresh perspective to the company, combining their unique skills and experiences to drive the business forward while honoring the legacy of their predecessors

All of our technicians are trained and experienced in a wide range of HVAC systems. No job is too large or small. Whatever the customer needs, we have the service department to do the job effectively and efficiently. We also offer 24-hour emergency service, 7 days a week.

Store Planning & Preventative Maintenance Service

Fox Refrigeration, a non-union company, offering clients store planning as well as an extensive preventative maintenance program. We strongly advocate maintenance and the majority of our customers have contracts with us. Refrigeration costs a lot of money to operate, if the equipment is maintained properly it will result in a phenomenal amount of energy savings. We recommend every six months for commercial refrigeration, and every three months for heating and air conditioning.

They are also very adept at the electrical parts of the work and that’s important in this business. Having knowledge of electrical systems is very important because if you can’t troubleshoot the electrical, then you can’t fix have the problems you may encounter.
